Training for rowing is by far the most challenging topic to discuss. Each athlete has their own strengths and weaknesses and is genetically adept with their individual physical and mental potentials. The training program must guide athletes through various phases of development. The goal of the program is simple: the physiological and psychological development of the athlete to a higher level of fitness and maturity.

Notes on Rowing Chapter 1 - TRAINING (2009) by Mike Purcer helps coaches and athletes explore the sport.
Chapter 1 – Training is the book that provides an example program plan for coaches wishing to study the physical, technical and mental development of the athlete. This program was designed for senior lightweight athletes, ages 20 to 30, with five to fifteen years of rowing experience. It is a year-round program that begins in January and includes two competitive phases, one in the summer and a second in the fall.
The program is aimed at the physical, technical and mental development of the athlete to a higher level of fitness and maturity. It is divided into seven separate parts including preparation, per-competition, competition and transition phases. Each phase provides an overview of the physical training and an outline of mental skills that need to be developed to achieve a higher level of performance.
The book is available in PDF format only at the cost of $ 15 CAD. Email purcerverance@gmail.com, and you will receive a PayPal invoice and a PDF of the book by email.
